Costa Rica Properties

Costa Rica is in Central America, bordered by Nicaragua and Panama as well as the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Its population is around 5 million people spread out over 51,060 square kilometers of land area, but the  single greatest concentration is in San Jose, the capitol, with over 340,000 people. Costa Rica is known for it’s stable democracy, a highly educated, mostly bi-lingual workforce, excellent affordable healthcare, and stunning beauty and eco-diversity.

History

Costa Rica was sparsely inhabited when it came under Spanish rule in the 16th century and declared sovereignty in 1847. Since then, Costa Rica has remained among the most stable, prosperous, and progressive nations in Latin America. In 1949, Costa Rica permanently abolished its army, becoming one of only a few sovereign nations without a one, and instead diverted those resources to education and healthcare which very much shapes the country as it is today.

Economy

Its economy, once heavily dependent on agriculture, has diversified to include sectors such as finance, corporate services for foreign companies, pharmaceuticals, and ecotourism attracting foreign manufacturing and service companies to operate in Costa Rica's Free Trade Zones, benefiting from investment and tax incentives.

Eco-Diversity

Costa Rica means “Rich Coast” and endeavors to protect their cherished eco-diversity with progressive environmental policies, being the only country to meet all five UNDP criteria established to measure environmental sustainability. In in the 2016, it was ranked 42nd in the world, and 3rd in the Americas in the Environmental Performance Index,

Commitment To Carbon-Neutrality

In 2009, Costa Rica was identified by the New Economics Foundation's as the greenest country in the world, and by 2016, 98.1% of its electricity was generated from green, renewable sources. Costa Rica officially plans to become a carbon-neutral country by 2021. All of these factors are a great source of pride and feed the “Pura Vida’ lifestyle that Costa Ricans embrace, earning it the moniker “The happiest country in the world”.
